"Education is Timeless"
My mother, Barbara Ernst-Bacon, an Educator of the Detroit Public Schools for 35 years, left me with an inspirational quote before she passed in 2004. My mother's quote to me upon receiving my Masters in Education was engraved on a clock. The clock read, "Education is Timeless". I have lived by this quote and shared it with all that I encounter in Education. An individual can never acquire too much knowledge; therefore, Education does not have time constraints. Since conception, the human brain is constantly learning, hence time is an allie of Education. As students, we learn early that Education is a necessity in order to be productive in a constant teaching/learning society. While some time constraints are designed for our Educational process, K-12 and beyond, the mind continously absorbs new information within and outside of these planned schedules. As teachers, it is our job to turn back the hands of time to insure that our students are receiving and comprehending the lessons taught for their educational benefit. As life-long learners, we must seize the time, and use each second to learn, to teach, and to evolve.
Mr. Bacon
I was born in Michigan in the historic district of Northwest Detroit. As the middle sibling of three brothers and one sister, I have always maintained a mentoring nature to both old and young. I attended a mix of Detroit Catholic and public schools with my most memorable being Jared W. Finney High School on Detroit's eastside from 1988-1992. This is were I met my mentors, Mrs. Bass and Mrs. Boggs, who turned a class clown into an energetic, bright and creative young man by teaching him respect and discipline. I was introduced to the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (Army) and the Yearbook Staff where I excelled and held leadership postions in both. (Commander/Editor). Upon graduation in 1992, I ventured to my parents alma mater, Talladega College, Talladega, Alabama. After receiving my Bachelors of Arts 1998, I returned to Detroit and began employment at Chrysler. During my ten year span as a dedicated United Auto Worker, I returned to school and completed my Masters of Education at Marygrove College in Detroit, 2002. I also completed a two year certification program at Wayne State University, 2006, as a graduate of the Labor Studies Program. I have taught on all levels, K-12, College, and as a trainer for the United Auto Workers. I am a devoted father of five children and I am very fortunate to have a motivating and supporting spouse. I enjoy leisure time in traveling and producing music. As a member of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc., I am constantly involved in community service and mentoring young African-American males. I am currently attending Western Michigan University pursuing recertification to teach Secondary English in the State of Michigan. I too am a life-long learner and a huge advocate of the belief that Education is indeed "Timeless".
