The Language of Education
Education is a universal language. I feel that the "E" in Education should always be capitilzed due its extreme importance as a language primarily used in our lives. In every language spoken around the globe, Education is translated into learning. We must recognize that Education is diverse and that different cultures are each unique in their quest to gain knowledge. As teachers, we must engage each student as if each one were different although they may speak the same language, their different expectaions of what they want to learn distinguishes them from the "same". Once we master the technique to recognize and treat our students as individuals, we can then experience and admire their different languages and how they choose to communicate with us in the classroom. If an instructor has a closed mind to the ever growing and changing diversity in today's classroom, the instructor will began to only hear one voice and one language and miss out on the learning collage of vivid minds and personalities.
The different languages in the form of technology have also created a diversified culture in today's classroom. Devices such as smart phones, laptops, ipods/pads, and tablets have enhanced the language of learning at a fast pace. This increases the importance of learning and understanding new languages in the classroom to enhance the instructors capability to communicate with their mutli-language students. It is essential to bridge the gap in the classroom to create a cohesive learning atmosphere that both the student and teacher enjoys, while teaching and learning from each other. In many communities, English as Second Language students (ESL) are increasing in the student body. Teachers must remain prepared to encounter these different cultures and design assignments that share the one common language of "Learning". In the world of Education, we all share a destination. That destination is to reach a conversation that allows our different languages to be exercised, recognized, and offered the produtive seed of knowledge. I believe that students are all different and that they all speak different languages even if they are speaking the same native tongue. A successful teacher is one that recognizes, respects, and reconstructs with the vast diversity in the new era of Education.
