Professional Experience
Over the past ten years, I have had the opportunity to gain a unique level of teaching expereince. While pursuing my Masters in Education in 2001, I had the pleasure of student teaching at Beuabian Middle School in Detroit. I was assigned to a seventh grade Language Arts class where I was introduced to the importance of lesson planning and classroom management. During my career with Chrysler, I served as a United Auto Worker trainer/instructor where I taught colleagues in the areas of labor law/history, collective bargaining, greivance handling, editiing, and safety. I also served as the Youth Committe Director where my essential duties were to tutor and mentor younger members of the United Auto Workers. My first full time teaching position was at the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences from 2004-2006. I was hired as an Interim Special Education provider where I managed IEP's (Individual Educational Plans) and worked in conjunction with the mainstream teachers in attempt to include my students in a general classroom setting as frequently as possible. As an adjuct English Instructor for Henry Ford Community College, Dearbron MI, I enjoyed instructing ESL (English as Second Language) students to excel past their tested entrance exams into the college in preperation for a second semester regular composition course. I feel that I have been very fortunate in teaching such a diverse student body in such a short period. However, I honestly feel that my talents would mostly benefit young adults at a crucial turning point in middle school and high school who are transitioning into adulthood.
